Build your own hardware wallet

A Bitcoin hardware wallet is a physical device that securely stores your private keys, allowing you to manage and protect your cryptocurrencies offline, away from potential online threats. And you can build one yourself for under $50 using readily available, off-the-shelf parts.

Below, you will find a comprehensive list of required components for building a SeedSigner, along with their respective links.

Required components

  • Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3 AliExpress

  • Raspberry Pi GPIO header (unless shipped with the Pi as is the case above)

  • Display 1.3 inch LCD Hat 240x240 pixels by WaveShare AliExpress

  • Micro SD card (minimum 32MB) AliExpress

  • Camera module AliExpress

  • Cost for components: ~450 SEK (September 2024)

A 3D-printed case is not included in the aforementioned price estimate. You may either opt to purchase one separately or have it produced through a 3D printing service of your choice. See for instance the Open Pill or Orange Pill cases here. The cover image above is an example of the snug SeedSigner LessLuggage Enclosure.

Tools required

A soldering iron will be required unless the GPIO headers on the Raspberry Pi have already been pre-soldered (which is the case with the link above). You also need a way to flash the micro SD card.
